It depends on where it’s going and how fast. You see the exact cost at checkout, before you pay. Germany, Belgium and France have a standard and an express option; most other countries ship express.

Inside the EU, VAT is included and there are no duties. Outside the EU (including the UK, Switzerland and Norway) local VAT and duties may be charged on delivery, and those are yours to pay.

We use French sizing. Women’s cuts are true to size. Men’s cuts are slim: from M upwards, go up one size. Between two? Take the larger.

The trenches have a tailored silhouette and removable hood, with a removable belt on the women’s version. The parkas are more relaxed, with an adjustable waist and hood. The Women’s Parka is shorter; the Unisex Parka gives you more length. Same weather protection, different ways to wear it.

A shirt or light knit between about 8 °C and 18 °C; a warmer jumper when it gets colder. The membrane adapts to your body heat, so keep the layers under it light on mild days.

You have 14 days from delivery to return or exchange. Try it on at home, keep the labels and packaging, and we refund in full to your original payment method. Return shipping is yours to cover, including customs on international returns.

Defects in materials and workmanship, for five years from purchase. If a seam, zip, membrane or fabric fails because of how the coat was made, we repair it free, or replace it if we can’t.

Normal wear, accidents and damage from ignoring the care label aren’t covered, but we repair those too, for a nominal fee.

Some are, some aren’t; it depends on the fabric and construction. APA trench coats use fabric rated at least 20,000 mm waterproof, with taped seams to keep water from passing through the stitching.

It’s how much water pressure the fabric can hold back: picture a column of water 20 metres tall pressing on the cloth. Ours is rated at least 20,000 mm, tested to ISO 811 at Schoeller. The taped seams take care of the stitching.

Yes. The membrane keeps liquid water out and lets moisture vapour escape: at least 15,000 g/m² over 24 hours (ISO 15496). And it isn’t a fixed number, see the next question.

Think of a pine cone. Warm and dry, its scales open; cold and damp, they close. Schoeller’s c_change® membrane does the same: when you warm up on a fast walk or a heated train, it opens and lets heat and moisture out; when you cool down, it closes and keeps the warmth in. Windproof and waterproof the whole time.

Measured at Empa in St. Gallen: 50% more breathable from 10 °C to 20 °C, and 25% more moisture out than a conventional membrane in the same time.

No. DWR (durable water repellent) is the finish on the outside that makes drops bead and roll off. The membrane underneath is what stops water getting through. Ours is Schoeller’s NanoSphere®, modelled on a lotus leaf. When beading fades, heat brings it back (see Care).

Three fine layers bonded together: outer cloth, polyurethane membrane, protective inner layer. Plus a viscose lining, a lightly quilted back panel and nickel-free hardware. Under 800 g altogether.

Condensation, usually after a brisk walk or a bike ride. Open the front a little and wear a lighter layer. If rain is soaking in rather than beading, refresh the finish with steam (see Care).

A designer trench is usually cotton gabardine: beautiful, and fine in a light shower. In real rain it soaks through, gets heavy and needs re-proofing, often at well over €1,000. An APA keeps the tailoring and changes the cloth: 20,000 mm waterproof, taped seams, a membrane that adapts to you, under 800 g. Same silhouette, ready for the weather the original was named for.

Yes. The membrane that stops rain also stops wind.

The fabric is woven and finished at Schoeller in Sevelen, Switzerland. The coats are sewn in family-owned workshops in France and Poland, with seam tape from Italy, hardware from Germany and lining from France. OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, made to bluesign® criteria.

We don’t claim that for the whole fabric. The NanoSphere® finish is PFOA- and PFOS-free and the c_change® membrane is fluorocarbon-free. Ask us if you’d like the details.

A damp cloth for small marks is usually enough. Otherwise: 30 °C delicate cycle, gentle detergent, no spin, no softener, hang to dry. Gentle dry cleaning (hydrocarbon solvent) is fine too. Always follow the care label.

Yes. Sprinkle a little water on the sleeve. If it forms round drops and rolls off, the finish is doing its job. If it leaves a dark, damp patch, steam or iron the outer shell on high heat with steam, following the care label, to refresh the water-repellent finish.

No. Hang it up; it dries quickly.
